Organizing in the Technology Age

Image
Yes, I confess, I am one of those people that could not survive without my smartphone. I use it for everything. It is after all a mini computer in the palm of my hands and I fully use it as such. People know if they don't see my phone in my hand my whole day is thrown off. That rarely happens!  The other day I asked for blog topics on my Facebook page and there were a couple of good suggestions like penguins, or bodily fluids but those are for another blog post. Today I am going to write about how I keep myself and my family organized. I have roughly 120 downloaded applications on my iPhone 4s. For the most part all of  my Top 10 Apps can be found in the iTunes App Store, Android and Google Play Store. Tigergypsymomma's Top 10 Apps : 1.  Cozi Family Organizer - I don't know I how I came across this app several years ago but I am so extremely happy that I did! With Cozi you can sync every member of your family to the features by email or text message, create multipl...

And Now for Your Reading Pleasure...

So far in my adult life, there are two things I have always been called... a tiger mom and a gypsy. The two don't even go together but this blog is a head on collision of both worlds. I don't know if you have ever read the book  Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother  but in short it is a funny, honest read into the mind of a mothers journey in life backed by strict parenting ( I however don't see myself as strict but more on that later). The gypsy in me runs deep and I can still feel it in me despite living in the same place for the past thirteen years. As a former Navy dependent (brat) we moved here and there. Somehow not nearly as much as some of the friends I made during that period of my life but my half gypsy military life made me who I am and added to my cultural acceptance of not only myself but the world around me. I love moving and traveling and generally make friends wherever I go. I have been blessed with three beautiful children as well as a stepson (I hate ...

Not So Funny Saturday Morning

Image
Anyone who is anyone in my circle of friends know that I have a serious sleep/wake problem. I never fall asleep before 1AM and waking up in time to get my kids on the bus requires 3 alarms, and 2 great above and beyond friends to call me back to back to back and not only get me to answer the phone but also to hold a stimulating conversation so I actually wake up and get out of bed. Then another couple of calls after that to make sure I didn't get back in bed. Yes, I have tried medication but I'm not thrilled about mind altering substances other than coffee , wine and vodka . Saturday is the one day I never have to worry about getting up...until this morning.  DD2 and I fell asleep watching ' Kung Fu Panda '...again for the 3000th time. Sleep felt so good. I currently don't recall an actual dream and my sleep app shows that I only had 3 hours of R.E.M sleep ( the app is called Sleep Time , $1.99 in the App Store).  Why am I awake? This morning the Bo...

How to Live with Your Parents (for the Rest of Your Life)...

I could have wrote the script for this sitcom. If I had it might not have gotten canned. There are two things (okay well more than two) that my parents remember clear as day. 1. Me telling them at the grown age of 5 or 6 that I am going to live with them for the rest of my life and 2. the time I told my Dad that I was pregnant with my now 9 year old and my Mom responded by saying that as long as I was not married I was welcome to stay home. After marriage it is my husbands job to put a roof over my head. Now that I am divorced and home again they remind me of both often. It has become a joke between us and every time they don't agree with something the adult me does I laugh and say... FOREVER & EVER I WILL LIVE WITH YOU STILL! The reality is that quite frankly this is what works for me, my children and my work and business schedules at the moment. I know people thing "OMG Becky look at her...she is still at home with her kids living with her parents!" but I'm no...

Ugly Babies Pact

Image
Yeah, yeah, yeah! I know the title is a bit of an attention grabber and something unspoken in the parenting world but let's be honest ugly babies exist. I have yet to meet a parent that doesn't think their child is the most beautiful creature in the world, or the smartest, or strongest. I totally get it. I'm a mom to four (and my fiance wants more)! Thinking back (bwahahaha evil laugh), which friends and family will tell you can be dangerous because I am that person that collects and files all antics, memories, stories and fuckery that the chances of a story not being written about you sooner or later are very slim. Today's memory is brought to you from the files titled Shit We Said in Cuba While Being a Butterball . Growing up for a short gap in my life on a Naval Base in Cuba was interesting. You would think spending the beginning of your foundation teen years on a base that spanned 45 square miles of surf and turf and known as the oldest U.S. base overseas would da...
